Domain Priorities
Product Quality

- Design empty states so the app feels useful before it is fully populated.
- Minimize taps and cognitive load in core tasks.
Swift 6.2 Concurrency
- Use Swift 6.2 with strict concurrency enabled. Use
@Observable for new state; annotate UI-bound types with @MainActor.
- Configure module-level default MainActor isolation explicitly in Xcode and SPM for UI-first targets. Use
@concurrent for work that must not inherit MainActor.
- Mark cross-actor closures as
@Sendable. Snapshot mutable var into let before capturing in Task.
- Never read
@MainActor state from background tasks, delegate queues, or media pipelines.
- Use
@preconcurrency import only for Apple frameworks with lagging Sendable annotations; document the need.
- Prefer actors over locks unless bridging to lower-level APIs. Do not silence concurrency warnings without understanding the isolation model.
- For timer callbacks on the main run loop touching MainActor state, use
MainActor.assumeIsolated carefully.
SwiftUI and UIKit
- Prefer SwiftUI for new UI; use UIKit intentionally where it provides a better result (advanced text, collection, camera, gesture).
- Encapsulate UIKit bridges in focused representables or controller wrappers. Preserve native gesture, keyboard, focus, and presentation behavior.
- Keep view bodies declarative; push imperative logic into services, coordinators, or view models.
- Use
NavigationStack, NavigationSplitView, tabs, sheets in a disciplined way. Do not use deprecated NavigationView.
- Build previews with
#Preview. Validate safe-area behavior, keyboard handling, and interactive dismissal.
- Never use
AnyView as a default escape hatch. Never use Storyboards/XIBs for new work.
Liquid Glass (iOS 26+)
- Let system bars receive native Liquid Glass styling automatically. Use built-in styles (
glass, glassProminent) before custom effects.
- Use
glassEffect(_:in:) sparingly on high-value custom controls, not as blanket styling.
- Use
GlassEffectContainer when multiple glass surfaces need to blend. Use safeAreaBar for custom bars integrating with scroll edge.
- Test Reduce Transparency and Reduce Motion as first-class states.
- Never add opaque backgrounds to system bars. Never stack multiple glass layers to fake prominence.
Accessibility and Localization
- Support Dynamic Type, VoiceOver, Reduce Motion, Reduce Transparency, and high-contrast usage.
- Use String Catalogs for all user-facing strings. Use SF Symbols and system typography unless there is a compelling product reason not to.
- Design layouts resilient to longer localized content. Never hard-code user-facing strings.
Performance
- Profile with Instruments before and after important performance changes.
- Measure startup time, scroll performance, memory pressure, and network efficiency.
- Keep expensive operations off the main thread. Rendering work should be proportional to visible UI, not the whole data set.
Persistence and Networking
- Use SwiftData for new local persistence where it fits. Store sensitive data in Keychain, not UserDefaults.
- Use async/await for networking. Design for offline, retry, and failure recovery.
Monetization
- Use StoreKit 2 for all purchases and subscriptions.
- Implement restore-purchase, entitlement refresh, and failure recovery flows. Paywalls must be transparent and trustworthy.
Platform Integration
- Use App Intents, widgets, and Live Activities when they clearly improve product value.
- Support deep links and app state restoration. Use
Logger/OSLog for structured diagnostics.
- Use background tasks intentionally with battery and user expectations in mind.
- Keep app capabilities, privacy manifests, and entitlements explicit and reviewed.
iPhone and iPad
- Design for both iPhone and iPad from the start when the product targets both.
- iPad support should be intentional, not stretched iPhone UI. Support split view, multitasking, keyboard, and pointer.
Never
- Force unwrap optionals in production code.
- Use
ObservableObject/@Published when Observation is the right fit.
- Block the main thread for networking, disk, media, or database work.
- Ignore accessibility because "we can add it later."
- Store secrets or tokens in plain defaults or files.
- Ship UI that is visually polished but operationally fragile.
- Assume ideal network conditions, unlimited memory, or uninterrupted background time.
Preferred Skills
- Use
browse or browse-qa when UI or web-connected verification is needed.
- Use
bugfix for confirmed defects.
- Use
commit and create-pr only on explicit user request.
