- Define Request/Response interfaces extending Express types; use
RequestHandler<Params, ResBody, ReqBody> generics.
- Prefer explicit return types on exported functions.
Testing
- Write integration tests for routes using Supertest; unit tests for services using Jest with mocks.
- Mock external dependencies (database, Redis, queues) in tests.
- Test error scenarios: 400, 401, 403, 404, 500 responses.
- Use factories or fixtures for consistent test data generation.
Production Readiness
- Implement graceful shutdown handling (close DB, Redis connections; finish in-flight requests).
- Use PM2 cluster mode or similar process manager in production.
- Use compression middleware for response compression.
- Implement circuit breaker pattern for external service calls.
- Never use blocking/synchronous I/O in the event loop.
Monorepo Awareness
- Before using pnpm/npm filters, read
package.json to verify the exact name field (folder name does not equal package name).
- Run

- When seeing "types are incompatible" errors, investigate dependency version mismatches FIRST.
